Shoal Creek
Nursery only sells plants that are of the highest
quality, often raised by regional growers. Our
plants are proven top performers. They can handle the
high temperatures and high humidity of Austin, and many
are xeriscapic (they require little to no
supplementary water).
Our selection is
flexible and broad. We have plants for traditional
Southern gardens, for cottage gardens, for butterfly
gardens, and for native gardens.
Gardening in
Austin can be tough—we've got alkaline soils with low
organic matter, a voracious deer population, and
droughty summers paired with high humidity. Whatever
challenges your garden may face, we've got plants for
you! Drop by to consult with our expert staff for advice
on how to achieve the garden you want.
Plant of the
Month
This month's
feature plant is the free-blooming antique rose 'Old
Blush'. The western world was introduced to 'Old
Blush' in 1752 when it was imported from China. This
breezy, robust rose was used to introduce remontancy
(the ability to bloom two or more times per year) into
modern roses like Hybrid Teas, Hybrid Perpetuals, and
Noisettes. Though it has many illustrious descendants,
this tough old rose is hard to beat. It blooms
constantly—often through winter—and can blithely endure
years of complete neglect. 'Old Blush' has a loose,
rustic flower shape and multi-hued pink flowers. Its
robust architecture means that—unlike many modern
roses—it harmonizes gracefully with other garden plants.
It adds color, vivacity, and a casual charm to any
garden.
